The First Step to Wisdom
Who are you? Where did you come from? Why are you here?
Let all questions fade into to the night and smoke a cigar, enjoy a scotch, ride your imagination out of town, into the blue, past the gates of detailed social convention, right into the night, where the stars shine, the world is exploding in awe and wonder and steeped contemplation.
You, your job, your purpose is to have fun, to enjoy, to have your higher mind take over your stubby thoughts of worry and getting there, so you can realize you are there, the world is…a perfect perpetration of everything you need, you could realize—and with a simple twist of fate, a slight of the hand, a moment in the sands of time, where the sands stop, the world gets bigger that you let your mind grasp to date, as the flowers bloom in late March, and you bloom in a moment’s notice after a fine dinner on the streets of getting there.
Take a deep breath and breathe in your life, your days, the next day is here.
I was sitting with a couple of old men, interesting characters to say the least, in an 1879 refurbished dancehall right out of the old west.
They woke up early, and commented, how damn glad they were to be awake again, very glad.
Are you glad that you are awake? Do you even know if you are awake? Are you ecstatic to have another chance to see, to be, to enjoy, to throw gas on the fires of human dilemma and intrigue and create bonfire of desires, to chase the wild goose, climb the bean stock, imagine a better world, realize that a better world just caught up to your idea of “what a better world is” as you sit in a two story dance hall sipping espresso from the very street corner in Leadville where Doc Holiday had his last gunfight and was shipped to Glenwood Springs, emaciated, to fade away in a sanatorium.
The first step to wisdom is to realize all is well, to deeply understand that you have everything you need, and you are just excited about today as you are to achieving tomorrow’s dreams, that you are completely enthralled, excited, inspired, content, at peace, filled with joy, bliss, that your heart is soaring into the skies, that the cosmic charade and façade is raining down, that this moment’s dinner is just as tasty as you imagined, as perfect as anything promised to you by kings and queens and multimillionaires in Time Square.
Be all that you can be, but first be, and be and enjoy, and realize that you can completely love every minute of it, of your life, of now, of what is, of your road up head that always, yes always, comes up to meet you on the rivulets of time…as the crow flies, as yesterday dies, as you placate the ruins of the ancients who were steeped in this absolute first step to wisdom too.
The more things change the more they stay the same, the more we desire love and gratitude, the more we, you, me, the guy down the street, live happy fulfilled lives, watching the children sing and dance. Smile. Have fun. What else is there?
