How Far Away Can you Get From Yesterday?
What is yesterday but something gone, not real, mostly forgotten…for as they say, “Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.”
Yesterday can represent what was possible, what was done, what were limitations to a life lived maybe well, but can today, right now, in this very fertile moment, be lived and formed and guided to an even bigger and better, smarter and faster, realer and larger life.
Yesterday is gone, is where the ruts and routines and ways to do a thing got old and stagnant. Break these chains.
For what worked yesterday, may be holding you back today. For yesterday is a fading memory, a lost chance, the end of the road, a dead-end and gone moment in time.
Have you ever asked yourself…what is it that I do, what is it that I have done, maybe for years, that does not serve me anymore, that creates the darkness and low shadows of a life I believed was working, was progressing, but is now stuck in neutral…really not getting there?
It is like treading water, in ways that are secure, or making coffee in a percolator, when you can push a button and get a latte`.
Ask this question often: How can I do this better, differently, in a more profound and effective way? What new technologies, what new ways have been invented that will make it easier to do this? How can I screw in a screw with an electric screwdriver, instead of rummaging through the toolbox for a standard, handheld Philips?
Examine it all, watch, look, believe in better and better ways today. Get out of a frozen yesterday, a path too well trampled that you miss all the waterfalls that are just a ½ mile off track.
Maybe you should get off track once in a while, see the possibilities of doing a thing differently, a new way home, a new way to create something like new poetry, or residual income that lasts generations.
Today is beauty, is where the options can and are up ahead, for if you take a moment to progress, to undress the naked future, and rehearse a new dream, and if you thwart fear, and if you run like the wind, and climb higher than you have ever dreamed possible…and if you leave in the dust, parts of yesterday that need to fade away, then you can get to higher ground, become more than you have ever imagined—manifest a destiny.
Build a giant damn to draw water from, piece-by-piece instead of daily carrying water up a hill in a couple of buckets that keep spilling over.
What buckets do you keep carrying? What dramas do you persist in? What new break-aways do you need to get in your head?
Believe in the forefront of a new future that awaits the sensitive and enquiring mind. Believe you can see new patterns in the riff, in the ways everyone seems to drink a cup of tea.
Years ago, after coming back from my personal travels in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran…I was back in my hometown in Colorado. I went to breakfast with my father. I ordered a cup of tea. When it arrived I poured it from the cup into the saucer to cool it off, so I could drink it faster from the saucer.
My father got so mad. He said, “We don’t do it that way here. Drink your tea correctly.”
In fact, way back in Iran, they had rock sugar, so you didn’t stir in your sugar into the cup, you picked up a piece of this chunk-looking rock sugar, put it in your mouth and drank the hot tea over it.
What is the right way, the best way, the new way to create an incredible lifestyle?
How long will you let yesterday play the lute and sirens of 1,000 sorrows? How long will you persist in doing something, a thing, anything that does not serve you any longer. How long will you ignore Tony Robbins’ advice? “The past does not equal the future,” and get off your butt to create a masterpiece right now?
Swallow, complete, getrdone, and do the thing that will propel your life, will leave a legacy, a trail of gold all the way to the end of a rainbow.
Do not let your past equal your possible future. Do not let next year be about the same as this year. Make inspiring, calculated changes, new stabs at greatness. Complete a dream that has eluded you for decades.
What miraculous things can you do today, that you haven’t done before? What can you accomplish in a month, in a year, in two years? What can you accomplish in the next five to ten years?
Where can you place intentions and actions and resolve to solve your faltering, to add massive success to an ideal, to accomplishment that which has been on your mind since who knows when.
Yesterday is a blur in you creating a legend; it is where you were, though perhaps memories filled with love and contentment. And yet, now it is time to jump, leap, become, transcend, ask, act, and be more than you were willing to become yesterday.
Today is the first step into the magic you pretend to understand. Today is the cartwheel down the hill of possibilities to land in a field of daisies. Today is a slight shift
in awareness, a new way to look at old habits, an epiphany in the desert of what has been, an enlightening projection out of town, past the routines of being, the same-ol’-same-ol’, into a magnificent manifestation of you living a Cadillac dream, in the big house on the hill, being a Tom Wolfe in a land of illiteracy.
Go for it. Tack in the Wind. Remember the wise old saying of Jim Rohn: “The same winds blow on us all, it is all how you set the sail.”
Set the sail differently, every few moments, turn that sailing ship of destiny toward undiscovered lands of Milk and Honey, of Oz, of Camelot, of what you have but just begun to understand.
Today, realize and sprint out of the yesteryears of what is, into a crystal-clear… what can be…of your new tomorrow.
