9,000 Feet
There is a certain, pure peace that overtakes me when I go up to my cabin in the high Rocky Mountains at 9,000 feet.
Perhaps it’s a place I touch upon or get in tune with or that simply awakens me.
It’s as if there is a fringe world, outside the city living, a place to go that transcends all the bustle, the noise, the energies of so many things sparking in multiple directions …and it all unconsciously overwhelms the senses, the spirit, the humanity that so desperately needs, craves, this quiet, peace and solitude.
Most (including myself) forget this truth, and value and life that exists on this fringe, the high mountain roads, the stillness of a forest, the perfection of a soothing creek.
Go out into nature, this seclusion, for it nourishes you, brings you back to your roots, native and ancient roots, where the earth and sky surround a scattered mind…placing it back in order, back to where it belongs—where pure truth, sanity and perfection exist not at a frantic pace, like radio commercials, traffic and the never ending duties that seem so important to you daily.
Go back to the stillness without, and let this solitude capture your soul and tame your forever searching heart.
Feel the difference a forest, a star-studded sky, a two-lane country road, a soft breeze, a gurgling brook can make on your health, peace of mind, and on your indelible and indomitable spirit that thirsts for this perfection, seclusion and oneness of all things…that moves at a pace of unrushed, as if eternity is playing hide and seek with linear time.
Take this time for nature, for you to reconnect to yourself with that which is vital, valuable, meaningful…so that you may be the light touching others, inspiring them, helping them play hooky for a day and bask in the manna from heaven—the life force itself.
Do this frequently and you will leave a wake of wonder behind the days you have lived, a wake that can be felt and remembered and followed as “the road less traveled,” the life completely lived.
Touch this perfection and it will surely touch you.
This is the pathway to peace.
